What would you like people to say at your funeral?

In my training as a hospice volunteer, we were asked to reflect on this question. It’s a powerful one — and it came to mind again recently remembering the funeral scene in Andor, the Star Wars series.

In that moment, Maarva Andor delivers a rousing speech via hologram at her own funeral, urging the rebels to rise up. I am unlikely to deliver a speech at my own funeral via hologram or otherwise but considering what I might say was an interesting thought experiment!

Understanding the legacy you want to leave can be a compass for how you spend your time, energy, and effort today. In my work with clients who are thinking long-term about their careers, we often explore the impact they want to have — on their colleagues, their field, or their communities — and then work backward from that vision to chart a meaningful path forward.

My family and I visited all the Star Wars stuff at Disneyland over spring break — our second time, and it still delivered! 🚀.
